What browsers do you support?

Subly is browser-based, so you do not need to download any software. We support all major browsers, including Safari, Edge, and Chrome.

Can I share a public link with someone not using Subly?

We believe your video content should be available for your audience whenever you'd like to share it with. We have the Subly share feature for you to share a public link with whoever you choose when you've finished editing your video. You don't have to share the link if it's not for public use. Subly has many other interesting features. Check out different plans and what they offer.

How can I share my video straight to other platforms?

You can share the preview video straight social media platforms or via email. To access the preview, click the share button inside the editor and then copy link. Please vote for what you’d like to see next or leave your suggestions on our Roadmap.

How do I spend my minutes?

Your minute budget is spent based on the duration of the video/audio content you upload and the number of actions you are performing on it.

For example:
If you have a 4-minute-long video and you upload it for transcription, that will deduct 4 minutes from your time budget.
If you decide to translate that content into French, that will “cost” you another 4 minutes.
Want it in Spanish? That’s 4 more minutes out of your budget.
In total, if you transcribe a 4-minute video and translate it into 2 languages, that’s going to deduct 12 minutes from your budget: 4 for transcription and 4 more for each of the translations – 3x4 minutes is 12 minutes.

How do I translate subtitles into another language with Subly?

Can I download the same video in multiple languages?

Of course, we're here to help you get your content in any language you need. You can transcribe different videos in the original language spoken to translate to over 70 languages. When you're happy with your original transcription you just select translation and choose the other languages you'd like to repurpose your content in. Why is the colour different on my HEVC encoded video?

Video recorded on newer iPhones or iPads are usually saved in HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) format to take up less space on the device. This format of video has limited support on Subly and so may lead to some discolouration of the video. If you are wanting to burn subtitles onto your video, we recommend first exporting your HEVC to a more compatible H.264 format before uploading to Subly. Please see details from Apple

Why are there mistakes in the transcription?

Our transcription uses AI and the quality of the transcription really depends on the quality of the audio; the spoken language, pronunciation, and background noise. We are constantly improving the transcription quality and striving for 100% accuracy in the future. Because of many factors that we can't influence, the transcription may not be 100% accurate. That’s why we've built an easy-to-use platform so you can make any edits you need to, in seconds. Log into your Subly account and correct any mistakes in minutes.

Why won't my file transcribe or translate?

We're sorry you're having problems. The first step, try to log out and back in. The next step is to try a different browser. If that doesn't work, please email with a screenshot of your error message and any details. The team is always ready to help you find a fix. Keep in mind that the translation feature is available only with Premium and Business subscriptions.

Why can't I upload my file?

Why can't I reset my password if I sign into Subly with Google?

The reset password link only works for users who entered an email and password to sign up. Check to see if you signed up with your Google account instead. If that doesn't work, please email

How do I add and edit subtitles?

You can create and edit subtitles online with the Subly editor. See Subly audio and video captioning.

Does Subly support foreign language transcription other than English?

Yes, Subly supports transcription in various languages. You can see all the languages we support here.

How do I delete my account?

Do you really have to go? Log in to your Subly account and go to your Settings (you can find it by clicking your profile icon top right). Select Delete user account to leave us. Be sure you really want to, once you've deleted your account there’s no getting your content back.

What happens if I accidentally delete my account?

If you delete your account by mistake please contact our support team within 24hrs so that we can reinstate it for you. Please note that deleted accounts cannot be recovered after 30 days.

How do I sign in?

Go to and either enter your email and password or use the 'Sign in with Google' button. You'll need to use the method you signed up with. Speak to our support team if you need any help.
